Petersburg-based Poplar Springs Hospital plans to construct an 18,000-square-foot Military Services Building for patients in the U.S. armed forces.
The project will add 32 inpatient beds at the behavioral health hospital and will create about 30 permanent jobs.
Poplar Springs will break ground on the $5.8 million expansion on June 8. Completion is scheduled for next January.
In addition to the expansion, Poplar Springs will begin renovations on the main campus gymnasium, to include the construction of a yoga/relaxation room, fitness center and the renovation of the adolescent acute unit.
?This expansion is part of a multi-year, multi-unit refurbishment on our main campus with the goal of expanding our existing military acute services, and improving our patient care environment,? Richard Clark, CEO of Poplar Springs Hospital, said in a statement.
Poplar Springs Hospital is the largest behavioral health hospital in Central Virginia. Treatment programs include: adolescent acute, adult acute, military-specific programs, adolescent residential programs as well as partial hospitalization.?
