Jersey City Physical Therapy: Treatment for shoulder pain

Shoulder pain can be the most debilitating in a body. Shoulder pains are common especially with heavy weight lifting, accidents or de-activity

Chiropractors on pain

The jersey city physical therapy has chiropractors who not only treat back and neck pains, but also treat joint pains such as hip joint, knee and arm joints; including shoulder joints. Chiropractors employ a holistic treatment where they not only get rid of the muscular or skeletal pain obtained from accidents, work, sports, illnesses, personal accidents etc, but also offer advice to the patients on how to avoid the recurring pains.

Rotator cuff syndrome

This is an illness which results in shoulder pains due to a number of reasons. The human shoulder is made up of three important parts: the collar bone, the upper arm bone and the bone above the shoulder. These three are joined by muscles and tendons (ligaments) at the rotator cuff- which is the curve socket through which the arm rotates and achieves a variety of movements. To understand this syndrome, it is important to understand that there is a sac (called bursa sac) which ensures that the tendons glide smoothly to allow the shoulder some painless movement and also prevent the bones from rubbing against each other.

Causes of shoulder pains and physical therapy

To be able to treat shoulder pains, the chiropractor explains the functionality of the shoulder to the patient and also advices them on how to ensure the pain does not recur again. Shoulder pains are caused by: inflamed or damaged tendons, inflamed and swollen bursa sac and rubbing of the bone above the shoulder with the rotator cuff (this is called impingement) which causes pain.

Physical therapy in treating rotator cuff syndrome

Since shoulder pain is due to inflamed or destroyed tendons caused by rigorous exercises of the shoulder joint or rigid tendons caused by inactivity of the joints, physical therapy is employed to exercise the joint (safely) to get rid of the pain as well as reduce the rigidity of the tendons hence avoid future pain.

In addition to physical therapy as part of treating shoulder pains, medication may be given for more severe cases such as swollen bursa and inflamed tendons whereas surgery can be done for dislocated shoulder bones to get rid of the pain.
